As discussed elsewhere in this volume, generalized distress, depression, and anxiety are common experiences among individuals with cancer. A comprehensive approach to cancer treatment should therefore include psychosocial interventions to help decrease patients’ emotional distress and improve their overall quality of life. Multiple research studies have evaluated problem-solving therapy (PST) for this purpose. This chapter briefly describes this literature, and provides an overview of the updated clinical guidelines comprising contemporary PST.
